Group Rides
RVA MORE Group Rides – Come Join Us!
http://www.meetup.com/RichmondMORE/
With the Scout Camp trails now available to us for riding, RVA MORE has implemented a new Meetup page to help the ride leaders with scheduling, organizing and keeping track of ride participants.
We will also be using this page to schedule additional group rides organized by RVA MORE and other mountain bike groups in the Richmond area.
Signing up on the Meetup site is easy and it’s free. Simply click on the link below, answer a few questions and then submit your request to join. Your request will be approved within 24-48 hours. Therefore, when group rides are posted, you will be automatically notified by email with information about the ride and a link to sign up (or decline, if you can’t attend).
Here’s the link:

Although it’s not required, we do encourage you to post a photo of yourself so that we know who you are when you come out for the rides. Plus, it’s always nice to put a face with a name.
Please feel free to us at info@rvamore.org if you have any questions or if you are having problems registering on the site.
Thanks for your continued support – we look forward to seeing you out on the trails!
Trailwork and Trail Maintenance
RVA MORE helps the community by maintaining much of the multi-use trail that appears in many local parks.
Building and maintaining trails benefits many people in several ways. Builders not only get the satisfaction of helping increase the usefulness and aesthetics of the local trail systems, but it also serves as a great time to meet other members of the biking and outdoor recreation community. Trailbuilders can also learn new skills, and get the opportunity to participate in small workshops that cover things such as small structure construction techniques and safe use of power tools. Users of the trails appreciate the effort, and RVA MORE has recieved numerous positive comments from them concerning our work.
Trailwork dates are typically on Saturdays, with a specific park as the focal point for the work. Although end times can vary, the workday typically begins at 9:00am. Descriptions of what is to be accomplished are posted ahead of time, allowing members the chance to decide upon how to dress for the day, and what (if any) tools to bring.
Other Area Group Rides
Ride Like A Girl
Ever heard one of your male mountain biking friends say, “I wish there were more girls who ride”… Well, let’s show them how many of us there actually are here in Richmond!
The Ride Like A Girl (RLAG) events are for women who love to bike, having started with an idea taken from a women’s riding group in Texas. Since the first ride in September 2004 it has helped the women’s mountain bike group in Richmond more than double, and it’s popularity continues to rise!
These events are run by Richmond Team Luna Chix.
Ride Like a Girl is an opportunity to meet other women who ride, learn new skills and build confidence. The main benefit in the past couple of years has been putting female riders in contact with each other through the organized rides. Many informal riding groups have formed but also many great friendships. Sometimes men don’t realize that riding with women involves much then a good workout or “hammer” session. Women not only enjoy the workout but they also enjoy the time on the trails to talk, stop and smell the flowers or time for a practice session over a troublesome logpile. All riding abilities are welcomed for advertised beginner rides. So if you’ve never been on a “singletrack trail” or have a mountain bike but have only ridden it on pavement then please come out and see what trail riding is all about. The only thing we require is that you wear a helmet, bring water that you can carry on yourself or the bike, and have a trail ready bike in decent working order. Large groups are always sub-divided into smaller groups based on ability so that everyone can have a good time no matter if you’re a first timer or an experienced racer. Each group will have designated ride leaders.
There are more advanced trails in Richmond and surrounding areas so please take notice if a specific ride is designated as intermediate or advanced.
Many people ask if their husbands or significant others can come to the rides. There are many men who come out to organized rides and form their own riding groups. Also if you are new to riding and feel more comfortable with having your significant other join the group then please feel free to invite him. The only thing we will discourage is negativity because rides are all about having fun.
Check the Calendar for LUNA Chix events, such as the weekly Poor Farm Rides typically every Tuesday throughout the summer at 6:00 pm as well as Saturday and Sunday rides. Rides are beginner friendly and will be broken into groups according to ability.
Pocahontas Night Rides
In conjunction with the Friends of Pocahontas State Park (FoPSP) and the staff of Pocahontas State Park, night rides are held at Pocahontas State Park at various times throughout the year.
Riders typically meet at 6:30pm, with groups of riders heading onto the trails at 7pm. Check the calendar listings for specific times. Cyclists are to meet in the parking lot just inside of the main park gates (near the office) to sign in and get ready.
You MUST park at this lot to be allowed to ride, as there is no night riding allowed in the park otherwise. You must also have working lights to participate. Parking fees still apply.
Night riding is allow ONLY during these group rides.
