One of the first project of the 2012 Richmond Riverfront Master Plan, the Chapel Island Trails were funded by a EPA Coastal Zone Management Grant.
The trail system in excellent for beginner riders and feature the city’s only all-weather trails. A 2.5 mile loop can be made by using the Virginia Capital Trail.
Parking is available at Great Shiplock Park (Dock St. and Pear St.) and the island features two boat put-in/takeouts at 14th St. and Trigg Cove.
Connections can be made to the trails on the southside of the river (Slave Trail, Ancarrow’s Landing and Floodwall) via the 14th St./Mayo Bridge.
